State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 7 is currently recruiting for an executive service position as a Deputy District Engineer (DOT Executive IV). The current vacancy is located in District 7 (Frederick County), but this announcement may also be used for future SHA vacancies in other Districts throughout the state of Maryland. Please apply if you would like to be considered for vacancies in other Districts. This position is open to anyone who meets the preferred qualifications listed below.

Nature of Work: The Deputy District Engineer position for District 7, which encompasses Carroll, Frederick, and Howard Counties, assists the District Engineer to ensure effective and efficient District operations. This includes administrative services, internal and external customer service, and emergency responsiveness to the public for the respective counties in this District. This position is responsible for the oversight and supervision, which includes the shared supervision of the management staff for project development, traffic, construction, maintenance, and the District Financial Officer.

This position will take a leading role in developing and implementing the district business plan; as well as oversee staff development and training. This position represents the District Engineer, meets and interacts with elected officials, County Executives/County Commissioners and Council members, representatives of local municipalities, and other county and state governmental agencies on a regular basis to ensure the delivery of projects and services consistent with the overall District goals and objectives and agency goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in transportation planning, engineering, and/or operations. Four (4) years of experience managing complex transportation programs. Four (4) years of experience supervising employees, overseeing, and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies and procedures.


Note:

U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidates of this position will be assigned duties which may require use of a motor vehicle and will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid within the State of Maryland with fewer than four points.
