Summary:

Under general supervision of the AVP Assistant Controller and in line with established policies and procedures, performs a variety of accounting and clerical duties in the accounting department. Responsible for processing accounts payable to ensure payments are remitted within payment periods. Ensures payments are posted and/or pending accounts payable are accrued to appropriate accounting period.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Receive vendor invoices and internal credit union purchase/service orders. Account for accurate billing amounts and resolve invoice discrepancies with outside vendors and other credit union personnel. Prepare accounts payable vouchers with appropriate general ledger accounts and cost centers.
  • Monitor accounts payable to ensure payments are remitted within payment periods.Obtain authorization to pay each invoice from the appropriate manager and VP accounting/controller.
  • Maintain computerized accounts payable system ensuring vendor information is current and necessary tax identification numbers are on file.
  • Responsible for keeping a neat and organized filing system for paid invoices.
  • Make recommendations for appropriate internal controls and ensures compliance with all accounts payable related policies and procedures.
  • Post accounts payable entries to general
  • Receive, scan, save and distribute mail from mailroom
  • Prepare and process check
  • Prepare monthly accounts payable accrual entry as a backup to the accounts payable specialist.
  • Calculate accrual amounts based on reasonableness as necessary. Monitor accounts payable accrual for changes throughout each month. Prepare necessary entries. Reverses the entry at beginning of next month.
  • Receive check request forms. Verify payments are authorized and fully documented by appropriate department managers prior to processing and remitting checks.
  • Prepare credit applications for new vendor
  • Update vendor history in accounting software to account for payments made through
  • Interact with front office personnel to research general ledger questions and wire
  • Handle telephone inquiries from vendors and personnel from other departments.
  • Post to the general ledger outgoing wires from the home loan center and the retail lending department.
  • Use in-house software to key journal entries and access general ledger for inquiries and
  • Assist accountant cash management specialist with updating various spreadsheets and reports as assigned for reconciling to the Federal Reserve balance.
  • Perform other duties as

Additional: Responsible for completion of applicable training and compliance on federal regulations and APGFCU policies and procedures as related to the duties of this position (Bank Secrecy Act, Information Security as examples, if applicable).

Qualifications:

Education: Associate's Degree with an emphasis in accounting. Experience can be credited in lieu of education.

Experience: Minimum of one year work related experience in accounting, with one year of accounts payable experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of general accounting principles. Experience using personal computers with knowledge of Excel software. Requires analytical, problem-solving, communications / interpersonal, organizational, time management, and independent working skills.
