This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this Maryland Port Administration (MPA) position/function only. All interested persons will need to re-apply for any future recruitment conducted for this classification.

The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is a 216-employee transportation business unit within the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and is the public face of the Port of Baltimore. MPA was created by the Maryland General Assembly to increase waterborne commerce through the ports in the state. The Port of Baltimore plays an integral role as an economic generator and job creator, in addition to maintaining our nation's supply chain and moving vital goods to industries and consumers. As one of the nation's top ports for total cargo tonnage and overall dollar value of cargo, the Port of Baltimore is also one of the most diverse ports in the United States with over 140,000 jobs in Maryland linked to port activity.

General Role Description:
MPA is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Electrical Engineering professional to join the Engineering Division. The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor agency energy use and develop, implement, and manage MPA energy reduction initiatives, decarbonization and emission reduction projects, and electrification strategies, and initiatives in accordance with Generally Accepted Engineering practices and principles.

Some of the essential duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Develops and manages MPA's energy reduction strategies and decarbonization projects.
  • Develops, reviews, and implements terminal electrification strategies and projects.
  • Provides engineering support to projects that include the installation and remediation of mechanical and electrical assets.
  • Monitors energy usage on MPA properties and develops energy reduction strategies to meet State goals.
  • Represents MPA Engineering Division with other State agencies concerning energy and carbon emission reduction initiatives.
This position reports directly to the Deputy Director of Engineering Business & Technology.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Seven (7) years experience in professional engineering.

Candidates possessing an active Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Certification from an accredited program are encouraged to apply.

Notes:

1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. Possession of a Master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience.

3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements

Licenses & Certifications

Employees in this class may be required to possess a Professional Engineer, Land Surveyor, or Property Line Surveyor License.

Employee will be required to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) to gain unescorted access to Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration facilities.

A current motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland is required for this position. The applicable fields on this application regarding your Driver's License are required on this application for position eligibility.
